Cinemalaya 2016 surely has a frontrunner in “Tuos,” an indie film.

The movie stars Nora Aunor and Barbie Forteza, along with Ron Martin (Coco Martin’s younger brother), Flor Salanga, Elora Espano, and Ronnie Martinez.

“Tuos” tells the story of Binukot, an old cultural practice in the Philippines. Binukot are maidens deemed to be the fairest of their village, thus secluded and confined in a house. Pina-ilog portrayed by Nora Aunor is an old binukot who must keep their village’s tradition alive by passing her responsibility to Dowokan, played by Barbie Forteza.
